In the Company of Silence

by | Poetry

I listen to the pitter-patter of rain drops coming down,

Their cadence is slowing and farther apart they sound.

The gap between emerges in the dark of the night,

And it is the awareness of no sound or even of sight.

I lie awake feeling its pleasure and comforted in bed,

For it is like the presence of a dear, loving friend.

As the rain drops continue, they still sound apart,

Like they are also listening, along with my heart.

And there we find ourselves in the company of silence,

The presence of sweet stillness where my thoughts find balance.

For the company of silence is not an origin-less void,

It is the presence of the universe, listening to all the world.
