On a recent trip to Washington, D.C., I had the fun opportunity to meet up with some local jazz musicians. Years back when my mom lived in D.C., she put together a band that she sang in. Even after she moved to Spain the members continued on together. The group Rock Creek Jazz is who I’m talking about.
It turned out that the main guys from the group were practicing the Saturday afternoon I was in town. So I showed up at Roger St. Vincent’s house where I also met Bob Williams and Paco Galarza. Roger plays the bass, Bob the acoustic guitar, and Paco the classical guitar. Together they create a fusion jazz with the sounds of Latin rhythms and style. They even diversify themselves with Ukrainian folk songs, thanks to their Ukrainian violinist and singer, Solomia Gorokhivska.
During my time with the guys, they practiced two of their songs for me, which was a real treat. I loved hearing the authentic rawness of their sound…with styles and instruments like theirs, the acoustic, unplugged sound is so soothing and pleasant.
Here is the footage that I shot for you to enjoy, just as if you were there with me. It was done with my iMovie App on my iPhone, which I have found to come in very handy during all my travels. When you’re in D.C., look up the Rock Creek Jazz group and enjoy them live.
